Paint can do tremendous things. You can change the entire look of a room by just switching up the colors. I just finished a master bedroom makeover with paint.
Well, not completely finished. This is just step one of all the projects on my list for our master bedroom to complete this summer. But I think this first step was a big one! It changed the whole look of our room!
I love the modern farmhouse style and I am slowly inching our house in that direction.
I’ve always loved farmhouse, but my style is getting a little more modern lately.
We’re updating our home on a budget (which I wrote an entire post on how we’re doing that- check it out here) so we update things a little at a time.
Since I’m trying to inch in the modern farmhouse style, I thought I’d start with fresh paint on the walls. I recently painted our kitchen, bathroom, two hallways and our master bedroom.
(I did a LOT of painting! Check out my tips for painting a room HERE. I didn’t tape off any of the rooms because I discovered an amazing tool!)
(You can also check out how to modernize your hallways with paint HERE.)
Yes, I’ve been busy!
It took some time, but the results are so worth it.
I’m always so impressed with paint transformations. And it’s so simple!
Our Master Bedroom
Our master bedroom was a little bland. I tried to spruce it up with home decor and honestly, I don’t hate what it looked like before. It was just a little bland. It had no character.
BEFORE
I knew I wanted to lighten up the walls and get rid of the pinkish-tan color the previous owners had chosen. But I also had some serious inspiration for a cool, modern accent wall for the wall behind our bed.
So, I got a light color for the three other walls and a darker for the accent wall.
AFTER
I’m not typically on board for just painted accent walls. I like accent walls to have some more character than just paint, such as a wood feature.
Our accent wall will have a wood feature eventually, but until we get to that step of our process, I’ll have to settle for this.
Remember that the paint is only step one of this process. We have a long way to go, but I still love the transformation that it created by simply switching up the wall colors.
Master Bedroom Decor
I’ve slowly been switching out or updating some of our decor along the way when I find good deals.
I snagged these new throw pillows at Joann Fabrics for an insanely cheap price! They were 70% when I got them. They bring that modern farmhouse feel that I’m going for and really help richen up the look of them room.

I also found this vase at TJ Maxx for $10 and got the faux greenery to go with it at Target. The greenery stems were a little too short for the vase, but check out this trick I discovered that fixed that!
I loved the clock we had in our bedroom, but it was a teal color and didn’t match the room after I repainted it. I didn’t want to get rid of it, so I took some extra paint I had over and gave it a little DIY transformation.
I painted it a shade darker than the accent wall and then took some white paint to distress it a bit to keep that rustic feel.

Conclusion
Overall, you can see the difference that just a little paint will do.
I’m still amazed and still can’t believe it’s the same room.
This was step one for our total master bedroom makeover. I can’t wait for the rest of it to all come together and I can’t wait to share all our plans with you!
