When we found out we were expecting our first child, my design mind went crazy! This was finally my opportunity to take a room that hasn’t been touched and transform it to anything I want. If you know a bit about my story, then you know I typically make the best of what I currently own through DIYs and staging decor rather than buying new things. Well, with this neutral nursery design that I’ve created, I pretty much get to start from scratch!
In my efforts to still be budget-friendly, I’m focusing on neutral colors with some pops of green. These colors will work well with the flow of our house and will be able to work easily with changes throughout the years.

Neutral Nursery Design
Creating a Mood Board
The first thing I did was create a mood board for this neutral nursery design. This works for any room transformation and gives you a great visual representation of how you want the room to look. Here’s how to do one!
Step One: Search on Pinterest using keywords for your ideal design style. In my case, “neutral nursery ideas” was what I searched for. Create a new board and pin the images that you find that closely match what you’re looking for.
Step Two: Shop for items or similar items that you want for your space. This doesn’t have to be the set items that you get for this space. This is more like a wish list to get you started visually.
Step Three: Screenshot or save the photos of the items that you want for the space to your desktop or phone.
Step Four: Remove the backgrounds of your saved images using an app. I use Photo Scissors.
Step Five: Next, upload your photos into a free editing app. I use Canva.
Step Six: Place your photos on a blank design and create a collage however you like. Feel free to layer the photos to help create the look. And DONE!

Feature Wall Design
The next thing I did when designing the nursery, was design a feature wall. I’ve been wanting to do some sort of creative feature wall in our house and I figured this was a great opportunity.
My goal was to add all the elements I want in this room and tie them together on the blank wall above where the crib will go. So when designing the wall, I focused on brining natural wood elements, unique modern shapes, and a pop of green together and focused on how to work each element with each other.
I wanted to make sure my design would work well with the room, but I also wanted to do something different that I haven’t seen before. So, I worked on Canva again and moved a few shapes around to create the design below. It’s not to scale, but a general sketch of my current design idea.
Over the next few months as this sweet babe grows inside of me, I’ll work on collecting the items to complete the vision of this neutral nursery design. Stay tuned as I bring you along with every DIY and new project!
